The national node of the *European Integrated Data Archive*, EIDA Italy, is provided by the *Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia* (INGV), a non-commercial public research institution; a legal entity under public law and an autonomous institution. The institute’s Data Policy document (Principles, Implementation and Open Access to research contributions) is available here.
The data available from the *EIDA Italy* node via services and portal are organized by datasets which correspond to the individual networks as defined by the *International Federation of Digital Seismograph Networks* (FDSN). Most data providers define the applicable license and conditions of usage for their datasets and networks. These are detailed and should be consulted on the specific network page. In the majority of cases the data are openly distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). This open data license only requires appropriate attribution and recognition of the dataset provider for legal usage. In case the explicit statement on the license is still missing you usually can assume it to be the CC BY 4.0 license.
In few cases data providers ask to make their datasets available only to a *restricted* group during a limited embargo period. This privileged early access is generally granted to persons directly involved and contributing to data collection and preparation. It also serves the practical purpose of supporting the related work and to ensure data quality. After the declared embargo period the dataset is made available as open data. EIDA Italy does not grant restricted access to data permanently.
Please consult the network specific page for further details.
Please cite the various datasets (i.e., data from various FDSN networks) you are using in your work by its digital object identifier (DOI). This information and a citation example can be found on the network specific page. This is the most appropriate way to comply with the attribution and recognition requirements of common open data licenses, notably Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). In the exceptional case where a dataset provided by EIDA Italy is not yet identified by a DOI, please acknowledge the provider of the dataset in your work.
Providing high quality services, well-curated datasets and metadata, and EIDA Italia portal (https://eida.ingv.it/) requires substantial effort. We kindly ask you to acknowledge the node EIDA Italy for this endeavour, where you find this appropriate.
